Must-Sees: Step back in time at the Hampton National Memorial Site in Towson, a preserved 18th-century manor and gardens. Visitors can take a free guided tour inside of the mansion or explore the gardens themselves. The property is decorated and hosts special events during the holidays, so it’s a great place to visit during the winter season.
History buffs should also check out the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum, which honors the work of the pioneering African American astronomer and mathematician. The Number Nine Trolley Trail cuts through the property, giving visitors the opportunity to explore a defunct railroad.
Local Nature: Oregon Ridge Nature Center is a short drive from Towson and is a great place to see native flora and fauna, including exhibits showcasing a variety of Chesapeake Bay wildlife. Many Baltimore County parks, including Lake Roland Park and Loch Raven Reservoir, are centered around large bodies of water and let visitors boat and fish there.
Part of the Patapsco Valley State Park is also in Baltimore County. It’s one of the largest state parks in Maryland, as well as its oldest.
