The Nanticoke River Wildlife Management Area is home to one of the highest concentrations of bald eagles in the eastern U.S., and the river itself is the last place in Maryland where people can fish for sturgeon. The park also has many interesting places to go hiking, like the Sharptown Dunes. Another interesting hiking spot is Naylor Mill Forest, a rare old-growth forest full of giant red oaks that burst into gorgeous colors in the fall.
If you prefer boating and swimming to hiking, there are also many beaches in the area and places that offer access to the waterfront. Cove Road Beach is a great beach to visit with children due to its calm, shallow water. Roaring Point is a bit of a trek to get to, but it’s a nice, quiet beach surrounded by forest and a popular spot for fishing and crabbing.
