Exploring Maryland: Worcester County

(Ocean City, MD / Delmarva Aerial 360)

Must-Sees: Worcester County’s biggest tourist attraction is Ocean City, which draws in thousands of tourists from across the country every year. From thrilling rides at Jolly Roger Amusement Park and Trimper Rides to more low-key activities like local art galleries and museums, there’s something for everyone along these 10 miles of beach. In addition to the carnival games that make their home on the boardwalk, there are many arcades in the area where visitors can test their skill at pinball, crane games and other diversions.

There’s more to the county than Ocean City, though. Worcester County is a hub of agritourism, with farms that tourists can visit that range from petting farms to apiaries and dairy farms that make their own ice cream. The area is also great for golfing, with 17 different championship golf courses and several mini golf courses for more family-friendly excursions.

Local Nature: As a vacation destination, Worcester County is best known for its beaches. The main beach in Ocean City is bustling with activity during the summer, with activities ranging from low-energy affairs like sunbathing and swimming to more adventurous options like surfing and parasailing over the water. Many local companies take advantage of the waterfront by offering water sports, fishing, and even boats that double as on-the-water bars.

Biking is also a popular activity in the area, both on the boardwalk and its many parks. Nature parks like the Isle of Wight Park and Herring Creek Nature Park offer a more relaxing experience if you want to get away from the crowds. Assateague Island is only a short trip away from Ocean City, so many visitors go there to see the wild horses.
