After-School Arts Programs Foster Creativity

Arts classes are a great opportunity for kids to be creative, learn useful skills and express themselves. The Frederick area has many options for artsy kids looking to pursue their passions or learn something new when they head back to school this fall.

Dance

Dance classes are a great way to combine sports and art and are ideal for a more active child.

  • Youth Ballet (ages 8+) — 24/7 Dance Studio, 5:30-6:15 p.m. Tuesday, 5:15-6 p.m. Thursday
  • Youth Hip Hop (ages 8+) — 24/7 Dance Studio, 6:45-7:30 p.m. Friday, 12:15-1 p.m. Saturday
  • Let’s Dance I (ages 7-9) — Elite Feet Dance Studio, 10-11 a.m. Saturday
  • Level I Acro (ages 6-17) — Elite Feet Dance Studio, 6:45-7:45 p.m. Thursday

Theater

Act out at these theater classes that allow kids to show off their talent onstage!

  • Youth Musical Theater (ages 8+) — 24/7 Dance Studio, 6:45-7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday
  • Pre-Teen Musical Theater (ages 10+) — 24/7 Dance Studio, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday
    Teen Acting (ages 13-17) — The Ensemble School at Maryland Ensemble Theatre, 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday
  • Acting Out! (ages 7-9) — The Ensemble School at Maryland Ensemble Theatre, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday
  • Performance Skills (ages 10-12) — The Ensemble School at Maryland Ensemble Theatre, 5:45-6:45 p.m. Monday

Art

From painting and drawing to metalworking, there’s art classes to suit every taste.

  • Pee-Wee Picasso (ages 4-5) — Urbana Art & Soul Studios, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday
  • Elementary Art (grades 2-5) — Urbana Art & Soul Studios, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday
  • Secondary Art (grades 6-12) — Urbana Art & Soul Studios, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Doodle Lounge (teens and adults) — Dream FREE Art, 6 p.m. Friday
  • Cold Metal and Clay (age 12 and younger) — Ms. Caitlin’s School of Blacksmithing, 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday
