The chimes of the carillon bells will soon accompany other music folks will hear coming from Baker Park. Beginning June 5, Celebrate Frederick will host its annual Summer Concert Series on Sundays at 7 p.m. at the park’s bandshell for 12 weeks.

This summer’s lineup includes a diverse group of local and regional performers. “Every year, we have a group of volunteers that pick the bands and they try to represent a variety of genres and styles so that there is something for everyone,” says Jennifer Martin, Celebrate Frederick’s executive director. “I think they did a good job this year of having a diverse lineup and a lot of fun genres. I think people have a lot to look forward to” this season.

The concert dates and performers are:

* June 12 — Patrick Alban and Noche Latina

* June 19 — Special Delivery Band

* June 26 — The Beat Hotel

(Break for Fourth of July Holiday)

* July 10 — Guys in Thin Ties

* July 17 — Mark Bray & the Steel Soul Cowboys

* July 24 — Scott Ambush

* July 31 — Signature Live!

* Aug. 7 — Uncle Jesse

* Aug. 14 — Petty Coat Junction

* Aug. 21 — Gringo Jingo

* Aug. 28 — Dale and the ZDubs

Each concert is free and open to the public. Guests may put out a blanket to watch from the field, sit in permanent on-site seats, dance at the front of the stage or run around at the nearby playground. “Baker Park is really a gem in downtown Frederick, so we are so grateful to be able to use the bandshell,” she says. “(The concerts are) a wonderful tradition in Frederick to come out on Sunday night.”

Canned food items will be collected for the Frederick Food Bank. A 50/50 raffle, which has become an audience favorite, will also take place this season. “Every week, we have a group of volunteers that sell raffle tickets to the concertgoers,” Martin says. “At the end of the night, we draw a winner, and that individual gets 50% of the money raised that night and the other 50% goes back to support the concert series and other Celebrate Frederick events.”
