Summer break is almost here, and there’s a lot to look forward to in Frederick, including an Independence Day weekend baseball game and the Maryland Gubernatorial Primary. Here are some things to keep in mind in June and beyond for Frederick families.

Accessible Frederick
Frederick County’s Taxi Access Program now has two more transportation providers and same-day service, making it easier for older adults and people with disabilities to get to work, school, medical appointments and more.

School’s Out
The Maryland State Board of Education adopted a policy requiring public schools to end their school year before Juneteenth, including 2026 despite several closures for inclement weather.

Maryland Gubernatorial Primary
Don’t forget to vote in Maryland’s gubernatorial primary election, with early voting June 11 to June 18 and Primary Election Day June 23. Learn where to vote at frederickcountymd.gov.

Fireworks Fun
Frederick Keys baseball games will feature fireworks four days in June and five in July. The fireworks show July 3 show will be the biggest, in honor of America’s 250th Independence Day.

Teacher of the Year
Parkway Elementary School literacy specialist Alicia Souder was named Frederick County Public Schools’ 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year and will represent Frederick in the Maryland Teacher of the Year program — with finalists typically chosen in September.
