Must-Sees: If you’re in Harford County during baseball season, try catching a game at Ripken Stadium; it’s the home base of the Aberdeen Ironbirds and one of the best Minor League Baseball stadiums in the country. There’s also an Aberdeen location of The Ripken Experience, where baseball players of all ages can play ball on life-size replicas of famous baseball fields like Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.
For a more relaxing experience, check out Ladew Topiary Gardens. With beautiful topiaries and flower gardens, a butterfly house and plenty of trails to walk around, it’s the perfect place to spend a spring or summer afternoon. Ladew Gardens also regularly hosts events like yoga and tai chi classes, lectures about botany and art, and its annual Garden Festival.
If you have time, spend a day in downtown Havre de Grace. It’s right by the waterfront and has many small shops, art galleries and restaurants.
Local Nature: As its name suggests, Rocks State Park is known for its unique rock formations. The King and Queen’s Seat rock formation has attracted curious visitors since the 1800s. Kilgore Falls, the second-highest waterfall in Maryland, is also in the park, and the hiking trail that leads to it is very short and accessible for visitors. Deer Creek, which is accessible through the park, has great conditions for fishing and tubing.
Otter Point Creek is a great waterfront area, with plenty of well-maintained trails for hiking, paddling and even spotting different kinds of trees. The area is maintained by the Otter Point Creek Alliance, and visitors can even take part in important ecological work like conducting marsh plant surveys.
